Battle of the Legends 5/15 Results and Review

Washington Combat Presents “Battle of the Legends” Results

David Derby v Marco Galvao- Galvao TKO 1:37 Rd 1
Jordan Smith v Gustavo "Ximu" Machado- Smith UD
Gary Goodridge v Pedro Rizzo- Rizzo TKO Rd 2 (failure to meet bell after leg kicks)

I've seen a lot of promoters come to DC, and sadly I rarely see them again. This time more than most I really hope to see them again. The event was nearly flawless. The judges made an unpopular call in the first fight, but it was a close match. Every fight was exciting, and the Yamasaki brothers did a hell of a good job with the matchmaking. The card flew by even though there were 3 decisions and only two fights ended in the first round.

Antwain Britt ready for Strikeforce 5/15

At the recent DC MAX show in Washington DC we had a chance to catch up with Antwain “The Juggernaut” Britt before his match with Rafael Calvalcante at next weekend’s Strikeforce Heavy Artillery show in St. Louis, Missouri.

We’ve been following Antwain for a few years now from local shows in Fairfax and Washington DC, and winning his way into the house on the Ultimate Fighter, only to break his hand and not be able to continue. Now Antwain is working his way up another big opportunity, and rumors of a title shot for the winner of this match may soon become a reality.

Bloodyknux- So in your upcoming match you’re facing a well-regarded Black House fighter, what have you been doing to prepare for him?

Antwain Britt- I’ve been really hard-core with my Jiu-Jitsu. I’ve really been focused on that since the Jamal Patterson fight where I got a little over extended. I’m going to take him down and pound him out. That’s the goal, to kind of get back to the wrestling roots a little bit.

BK- You’re coming off an old school 3 in a night tournament down in Aruba, what was it like participating in a one night tournament?

AB- It was fun. A really fun tournament. We went down there and they had some really good competition. Carmelo Marrero, Richard Hale, Rodney Wallace. It was a really good experience for me, but definitely not something, those things can really shorten your career. I’m focusing on Strikeforce now. That’s my home and I want to focus on making a name in Strikeforce.

BK- Where do you go from here?

AB- The winner of this fight is in line for a title shot, we’re both up and comers, we’re both guys that bring a lot to the table in the 205 weight class. We’re both on the cusp of big things. I was actually suppose to fight Fejao back in Elite XC, and it never happened. It’s good we finally get to do this. It’s something that hardcore fans really want to see, and I’m excited about it.

BK- Thanks for talking to us, and good luck on the 15th.

AB- No problem, anytime.

Make sure you catch Antwain and a stacked card the Saturday May 15th live on Showtime.

Event Results and Review up at Bloodyknux.com. Click here!

Tomorrow night One World MMA has their first event at Fur Nightclub in Washington DC. This will certainly be one of the most intimate setting I've seen a fight in, and I hope to see some good ones. The card has a few Valhalla and Operation Octagon vets on it, and we'll also see an appearance by TUF and Strikeforce fighter, Antwain Britt. Antwain's fighting on the Heavy Artillery card on Showtime next weekend, so hopefully we'll get a chance to chat with him about his upcoming match. Tune in tomorrow late for event results and a review of the latest addition to Nation's Capitol's MMA scene.
